Amazon.com Product Description Designed for the new MacBook family of laptops, the Apple LED Cinema Display features a stunning 24-inch LED-backlit widescreen display with built-in iSight video camera, mic and speakers in an elegant, thin aluminum and glass enclosure. It also includes an integrated MagSafe charger, three USB 2.0 ports and the new Mini DisplayPort, making it easy for MacBook users to quickly connect and power their notebooks as well as use their favorite peripherals.
Expand the screen of your new MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air (notebook not included); see larger version. | The 24-inch glossy, widescreen display with 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution uses LED-backlit technology to provide instant full-screen brightness and great power efficiency. LEDs are solid-state light sources that light up very quickly, so there’s no waiting for your display when you connect your new MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air. With the built-in iSight camera, microphone, and speakers, you can connect your new MacBook--leaving it open or closed--and engage in video chats or listen to music just as you would with a desktop computer. The LED Cinema Display includes a MagSafe connector that powers and charges your new MacBook. The connector sits on your desk, ready and waiting--no need to unravel the cord to the power adapter that came with your notebook. On the back of the display, you’ll find three self-powered USB ports that are enabled the moment you plug the USB connector into your new MacBook. Connect a printer, camera, iPod, iPhone, USB hard drive... and they can stay connected so you can just grab your MacBook and go. Tilt the LED Cinema Display to get the viewing angle that’s best for your work environment. With its smooth-motion hinge, adjustment is effortless. Choose an angle anywhere from -5 to 25 degrees. Part of the next-generation DisplayPort industry standard, the new Mini DisplayPort delivers a pure digital signal that can drive up to a 30-inch widescreen display. The Mini DisplayPort is ultra-compact at just 10 percent the size of a full DVI connector, perfect for the sleek design of the new MacBook family. Adapters are available for using the MacBook’s Mini DisplayPort with older generation VGA, DVI/HDMI and Dual-Link DVI displays. The new LED Cinema Display is the greenest Apple display ever, made with mercury-free LED technology, arsenic-free glass and highly recyclable materials. The LED Cinema Display meets stringent Energy Star 4.0 requirements and achieves EPEAT Gold status. The new display contains no brominated flame retardants, all internal cables and components are PVC-free and its foam packaging has been reduced by 44 percent. Perfection June 14, 2010 Raymond Brigleb (Portland, OR, United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There's not anything I could see improving about this. The speakers are great for being completely built in - I wouldn't WANT them any bigger! It's so slim, the color is amazing, and it gets rid of so much clutter. It's a great display. It's worth the money.
Dead Pixels March 30, 2010 Mad Coder 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
There is a cluster of 10+ dead pixels in the upper left corner. They are white when powered off, black when in use.
I'm not a graphical artist, so it's really not worth the hassle of a return.
I wish it were bigger, but.... March 20, 2010 R. LaPedis (San Bruno, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a 30" Apple display at home and needed something for work to connect to my MacBook. I didn't need a huge monster at work so this fit the bill. On top of it being a great display, it charges my MacBook so I don't need to have a charger.
Stunning display, well worth it. February 10, 2010 Book buyer (Nowhere) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As a confirmed MacHead since 1984 I was initially not interested in this display because of the cost. Dell Ultrasharps at a few hundred less had always worked well for me and my Macs. I am very familiar with all of the other high end displays and what they offer in the $1,000 range such as NEC and others.. It became clear to me that for the price this monitor is very, very good. Since I have a MacBook Pro with mini-display port I am set with the connectors on this monitor that basically make it a docking station for my Mac Book. The monitor is bright with excellent color and even tiny text is easy to read. Of course it is very well made and looks fantastic. if you are thinking about getting one just go ahead and do it because you will be glad you did. I've noticed btw that lots of PC owners running windows are buying these along with an adapter so they can use it on their DVI equipped PC's. You can get a DVI adapter for around $75.00 This display has built-in speakers which sound surprisingly good as well as microphone and camera that work perfectly over iChat or Skype. Given how much time I spend in front of a computer the display is of paramount importance and this one will last years making it a wise investment.
Stunning Display for Macs only! February 8, 2010 Matthew G. Belge (Lincoln, MA USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
i just bought a new MacBook Pro, and decided to treat myself to a new display as well. I am completely satisfied - the display is stunning!
+ I am a serious amateur photographer, and so image quality is really important to me. I can not yet vouch for color accuracy as I have yet to invest in a screen calibration tool. However, what I can say is that the colors are deep, rich and very detailed on this display.
+My previous display was a 3 year old HP LCD 21 inch. It had the older flourescent tube lighting technology, while the Apple Cinema is LED backlit. The difference is very striking. Because the LED backlighting is much more precise areas that are dark that border on areas that are bright come out much more vivid and detailed on the Apple display. The first time I showed my kids my photos on my new display they all said "Wow!". It is a palpable difference.
+ The display is so well set up to work with the MacBook. Just plug it in and the Mac automatically detects it and sets things up so you have two displays - both the laptop screen and the Cinema display. No buttons to click, nothing to do, just plug and play in the truest sense of the word. Brilliant!
+ The display has a Magsafe power cord for the MacBook, so you don't need your portable power supply. This means I can keep the portable supply in my briefcase for quick travel.
+ The display also has 3 USB ports, so you can extend the number of ports
+ But the main thing, the images and colors on this baby are just gorgeous. And the clarity is also a thing of beauty. I didn't hook up this display until I'd been using my MacBook Pro for a couple of weeks. I have the 17 inch laptop and thought that display was really nice. But the Apple Cinema display just blows it away - brighter, clearer, richer. I've been using it for about 30 days now, intensively, more than 8 hours a day, and love it.
The only caveat I would add is that Apple introduced this display about 16 months ago (as of this writing) so they may be getting ready to update it. But I have not heard any credible rumors about this. On the other hand, this also means they've had time get all the kinks out of the manufacturing process, and at least from my vantage point, this display is a huge win.
